Individuals, local churches, and districts can receive up to $500 for use in starting a new Sunday School, revitalizing a Sunday School, beginning a new educational ministry, purchasing equipment, etc. Also, grants of $1,000 are available for the district staff person in Christian Education.

Reducing the Risk

and Human Sexuality


Assistance is available for developing programs to help local churches protect children, youth, and vulnerable adults from sexual abuse and harassment. Funding can be used for training leaders and purchasing related materials for those who provide programming in human sexuality for children and youth.

MI-CURE


Michigan Citizens United for Rehabilitation or Errands is a criminal justice reform organization. MI-CURE assists prisoners and their loved ones in learning about Michigan’s criminal justice system and how they can advocate for themselves and a more constructive system. It provides self-help literature, publishes a quarterly newsletter, and educates through speaking engagements with those both in and out of prison.

MICAP


Michigan Interfaith Council on Alcohol Problems shares concern for the problems in society that destroy people through the use of alcohol, other drugs, tobacco, and gambling. Its sharing is done with the legislature in Lansing and by raising concerns with churches, UM and others. MICAP is led by the Reverend Allen B. Rice, a member of the Detroit Conference. This organization encourages involvement in the legislative process by providing information on bills under consideration, lobbying representatives and senators, and an extensive program of field representatives that visit local churches.

Amnesty International is a worldwide campaigning movement that works to promote all the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights  and other international standards. Swords Into Plowshares


Swords Into Plowshares Peace Center & Gallery, 33 East Adams, Detroit employs the universal dimension of the arts to reach the emotions as well as the mind. The Center has had continuous exhibits since 1985. It hosts groups of all ages; loans books, videos and cd’s; and provides information and stimulation by means of its exhibits on hunger, oppression, and cultural biases. Art has come from Czechoslovakia, Japan, Israel, and Russia. Every two years an exhibit features Ontario and Michigan artists.

Bread for the World is a nation-wide Christian citizens’ movement that seeks justice for the world’s hungry people. Love Christian Services

Love Christian Services is a nonprofit ministry in Flint, serving people in time of need by screening and linking them with nearby resources and churches. Love sends clients to churches for food, clothing, etc. where volunteers interface with them. It provides one-on-one care motivated by Christian faith.

U.N./Washington Youth Seminar


This exciting travel seminar for mature high school youth is an intense education in social justice and world outreach.  Visits to our nation’s government in Washington, D.C., and to the United Nations in New York are coordinated through the General Board of Church and Society.
