$220,600 $22,060 $10,000 $12,060
In this example, the members of the congregation have a combined income figure of $220,600 per year. If they all tithed their income, their church pledges would total $22,606. In fact, however, in the previous year, their pledges were less than half of a tithe of their income, or $10,000. Thus one can see that there is plenty of room for this group of congregation members to grow in their financial stewardship.

Actually, we'd all like to have these folks in our congregation. They beat the national average of United Methodist giving by one and one-half percentage points.

Try this for your church members and see how it works out for your financial picture. Even if you have to guess at some of the income figures, chances are you'll be within about 10%, maybe even more accurate.

The real question that has to be asked is, "Is the church receiving a tithe?" How about 5%? What IS the level of giving, compared to the potential that is there?

This analysis will show whether your church has a real "financial" problem, or whether the problem is more of a spiritual and motivational one.
